About Us

Informed Majority is an internet-based, citizen engagement initiative of Political Crossroads, a non-partisan, nonprofit organization seeking to restore a political tradition in which our elected leaders and institutions of government are both committed to, and accountable for, enforcement of sustainable fiscal policies. We seek reforms designed to ensure equality of opportunity between all generations of Americans, and to insure that one generation shall not be entitled to live beyond their means at the expense of another.

We believe that many of today's fiscal challenges are the direct result of outdated and ineffective government accounting and reporting standards - standards which have uniformly failed to provide meaningful and timely representation as to the nature and magnitude of the fiscal challenges facing our nation.

Our work is intended to help in rebuilding the dialogue, the foundation and the trust necessary for effective policy solutions by informing and engaging local citizens about the challenges and opportunities facing their communities. Our objective is to encourage efficient, responsive and sustainable governments – at the local, state, and national level – by serving the best interests of the people.

Our current project, Informed Majority, seeks to engage local citizens in an open and transparent discussion of the issues and challenges behind the massive unfunded liabilities that currently burden government operations at every level.

The inspiration for this initiative dates to the pioneering efforts of Peter G. Peterson's co-founding of the Concord Coalition in 1992, and more recent efforts by David Walker, former President of the Peterson G Peterson Foundation and found of the Come Back America Initiative. These three organizations share a common goal of educating the public about the causes and consequences of federal budget deficits, the urgent need to reform America's unsustainable entitlement programs, and how to build a sound economy for future generations.

Helping to keep matters in perspective, as well as understand the critical significance of this issue, it is important to know that Mr. Walker served as the seventh Comptroller General of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) for almost ten years (1998-2008). This was one of Mr. Walker’s three presidential appointments each by different Presidents during his 15 years of total federal service. He also has over 20 years of private sector experience, including approximately 10 years as a Partner and Global Managing Director of Human Capital Services for Arthur Andersen LLP.

The primary goal of Informed Majority is to accelerate broad-based, public understanding and acceptance of their message. It is our mission to reach and engage everyday citizens in helping them to understand, in very personal terms, just how our country’s unsustainable fiscal policies are impacting our daily lives, our families and the fabric of our communities.

We recognize that we cannot attain these goals without the direct involvement and support from individual citizens like you. It is our task to explain the challenge and make the case for personal involvement - it will be your efforts and contributions which define our success.
